Walking time 1 hour, signed with red paint dots and some yellow round signs. Starting from the square of Makrirachi, we take the kalderimi just next to the restaurant going steadily downhill. Further down it is covered with concrete. Paying attention to the red dots, we come down to the streambed through an apple orchard (we keep on the right edge of the orchard+the kalderimi is blocked for ten meters but we still can follow its course). We walk another fifteen meters on the bank downhill to find the continuity on the other side. The bridge that existed here in the past is now gone, making it difficult to cross the stream in spring or after a heavy rain. Otherwise there is no problem to get to the other side, where we climb on kalderimi covered by soil and leaves. It opens to an earth road which we follow uphill, passing by Panagia chapel and the old cemetery of Anilio. We finally climb on a cement road that opens to the asphalt just below the village square. From here we can either continue down to the beach of Plaka-Agios Ioannis or climb to Hania (see the walk Hania-Anilio-Agios Ioannis).
