The park of Aghios Konstantinos
Aghios Konstantinos's Park is the former George's Square, which was remodeled into a recreational park in the 1920s by architect N. Kitsikis.
The park is situated across the esplanade of Volos, which starts at the port and ends at Anavros beach. At the beginning of the park, one can admire the Papastratos tobacco warehouse building, which was built in 1926 and today houses the University of Thessaly. Across the university there is an area called "Kordoni", essentially a breakwater with a beautiful bridge at its start and a lighthouse at its end.
Walking along the path, next to the park, one will come to the imposing church of St. Constantine. In full-moon summer evenings, the vibrant orange and red shades of the huge moon rising next to the church afford the landscape a fairy-tale quality. The park is a meeting place for local people of all ages, while in the evenings mostly young people and tourists often hung out in groups and enjoy the sea breeze, lounging in its concrete benches.
